England will be starting their qualification process in the match against Moldova. The reason fixture list that has been revealed by FIFA confirmed that Moldova will be the first opponents for England in the race to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup to be held in Brazil. This is not the first time England will be facing Moldova as their first opponents in a World Cup qualifying match. In the build-up to the 1998 FIFA World Cup, England first faced Moldova. It was a match that also saw the debut of David Beckham at the international stage.
"We are very pleased to have reached an agreement so quickly today. It was important for us to avoid dates in June. We have managed to agree fixtures similar to those we set out to achieve. There was good co-operation in the room and Poland organised the event extremely well," said Club England managing director Adrian Bevington.
Meanwhile, England will also be facing the likes of San Marino and Montenegro in the first five matches of the 2014 World Cup qualification. This will ensure that they get the points on the board initially before facing the stronger teams.
