Moldova was held by Malta in a goalless draw which served as a preparation for the World Cup qualifiers.
Both coaches sent their best starting eleven on the pitch, but the football level failed to reach any sort of standard.
Both teams were content to play the ball in midfield without showing any urgency in attack. Apart from two rare occasions by Malta, there were not a lot of occasions.
The first occasion came for Malta in the 10th minute when Effiong seems to have been fouled in the box. However, the referee judged that there was no contact and ordered the players to play on. A few minutes later, Malta benefited from a free-kick. The goalkeeper deflected Fenech's shot into a corner
Moldova, on the other hand, did have a couple of occasions, but they failed to make it count. Their first occasion came in the 34th minute when a shot from Cemirtan will be saved by the Malta’s goalkeeper. They will also benefit from a free-kick on the 39th minute only to find Ionita missing the target with his shot.
With these missed occasions, both teams went into half-time with a goalless draw. There were not a lot of improvements after the break with both teams failing to get any sort of fluency in their play. The best chance in the second half came to Moldova. Malta’s goalkeeper Bonello made a mistake and missed the ball out of the box. The ball fell to Sidorenco, who found its shot cleared off the line by a Malta player. The goalkeeper was beaten
On the 62nd minute, it was Bonello who again saved Malta from conceding a goal. Following a mistake from Steve Borg, Cemirtan took advantage and fired a shot at goal only to find the Malta goalkeeper in his way.
After that, there were not many occasions created, and the match ended at 0-0.
