MOLDOVA STUN LATVIA AT HOME

Moldovan football is at a good place at the moment after its senior team delivered one of the best results in recent times with the 2-1 away win over Latvia in Group D1 of this season's UEFA Nations League. Latvia had a perfect record in the group before they were stopped by the Moldovan football players.

The Moldovans have been drawn in Group D1 of this season's Nations League with Latvia, Andorra and Liechtenstein. Moldovan football players began their campaign in the group with a 2-0 away win over Liechtenstein thanks to the goals from Ion Nicolaescu (penalty) and Vadim Bolohan. Nicolaescu scored the first goal of the game from the penalty spot in the fifth minute before the points were sealed by Bolohan in the first minute of stoppage time. Moldova made it four points from two Group D1 games with the goalless draw with hosts Andorra.

Moldova suffered their only defeat in Group D1 till date when they were beaten 4-2 at home by leaders Latvia. The Latvians came from behind to score four goals and win the game. Ion Nicolaescu (penalty) opened the scoring for the Moldovans before Latvia took over. VladislavsGutkovskis and Janis Ikaunieks scored a brace each. NichitaMotpan pulled a goal back for Moldova to make the scoreline 3-2 before Ikaunieks sealed the win for away team Latvia with his second goal of the game.
Since the home defeat to Latvia, the Moldovan football players have won two from two games including the away win over Latvia on Thursday. Ion Nicolaescu scored the winning goal from the penalty spot five minutes into the second half to give Moldova a 2-1 win at home to Andorra as they bounced back from the loss to the Latvians. The aforementioned away win over Latvia then made it two straight wins for Moldova as they closed the gap on leaders Latvia to two points ahead of the final set of games. For the final set of games scheduled to take place on Sunday, the Latvians are guests of Andorra, while Moldova take on Liechtenstein at home.
