MOLDOVA: WINLESS RUN CONTINUES IN QUALIFIERS

Moldova have not had the best of qualifying campaigns ahead of next year's FIFA World Cup tournament on the Asian soil of Qatar. Moldovan football has not represented well after the senior national football team failed to win any of the eight qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. As a matter of fact, Moldovan football has witnessed seven successive losses in the qualifiers as far as Group F of the European section.

Things started on a good note for Moldovan football as far as the qualifiers as concerned with Ion Nicolaescu giving Moldova a ninth minute lead in their first game in Group F. Moldova were on the way to a win in their first Qatar 2022 FIFA World qualifier against the Faroe Islands at home until Meinhard Olsen struck with seven minutes left to play. To this effect, Moldova had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Since the home draw with the Faroe Islands, Moldova have lost seven games in a row in the qualifiers. The first of those seven games led to the darkest day in the history of Moldovan football as they were thrashed 8-0 by Denmark. It was the heaviest defeat suffered by the country since they started playing international football. Kasper Dolberg and MikkelDamsgaard scored two goals each for the Danes, while the likes of Jens Stryger Larsen, Mathias Jensen, Robert Skov and Marcus Ingvartsen also found the back of the net for the hosts.
Moldovan football won't be represented at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament as they are already out of contention in Group F but a win can still be achieved in the final two qualifying games. They have a solitary point from eight qualifying games till date. Moldova will resume their qualifying campaign in Group F when they face Scotland at home before ending it with an away game against Austria.
