The Blues boss Jose Mourinho has not revealed who is going to be the club’s shot stopper in the Champions League.
In the English top tier matches in the ongoing season, Mourinho has been using the Belgium international Thibaut Courtois, but, there have been talks that he might turn to the more experienced Petr Cech during the European games.
The Spanish club Real Madrid had done it the previous season. They had played Diego Lopez in the league, but, in the Champions League, they had relied on their senior most goalie Iker Casillas.
Mourinho, however, did not hint that he was also going to do the game. According to him, anyone can be asked to play any game.
Talking to the reporters yesterday, the Portuguese said, “I am not going to play a particular goalkeeper in a particular tournament and the other goalkeeper in the other tournament. It’s not going to be like that. You can see anyone featuring in any tournament. Petr can play in the league and he can play in Europe as well. Similarly, Thibaut can play in the Cup. Nothing is certain.”
When asked if Cech has kept himself in shape while being on the sidelines, Mourinho said, “Yes, he has. He is ready to be up and running.”
If Cech is continuously ignored by Mourinho, he might start exploring his options and an exit during the winter might be possible. He is not someone who is used to waiting for the opportunities sitting on the bench. So, the frustration can strike very quickly in his case.
Cech has probably been the greatest ever shot stopper for Chelsea. He had left the French outfit Stade Rennais to join the London based club 10 years back i.e. in 2004. He has been an outstanding performer for the Blues ever since.
