Shamrock Rovers have acquired the services of a new goalkeeper in Tomer Chencinski.
The new shot stopper is one that loves adventure, going by his experiences. The player says he has been “living the dream” even though it has not been all glamorous.
Chencinski spent a short time in Moldavian football with Nistru Otaci in 2008, where he claims he coped with barely four hours of running water in a regular day. His latest experience with Helsingborg IF did not end well as they were relegated despite being supervised by Henrik Larsson.
Hooligans on the final whistle attacked the Celtic legend and his son, who also plays for the club, with Chencinski seeing the action up-close.
“Henrik challenges you – he’s very honest and straight and that’s good. I admired that about him,” Chencinski said of his former boss.
Israel-born Chencinski has Europa League experience as he played with Maccabi Tel Aviv.
“I’ve played in Finland and I think the Irish league is quite similar. Sweden was a good level, too, but I’m well prepared for the next step on the journey. This is the biggest club in Ireland. I know the last few years has been a bit of a rough patch but I’m hoping I can bring my experience and leadership and challenge for a title,” he said.
Chencinski moved to Canada with his family before he was ten years old. The North American nation has featured him and he played in the MLS for Toronto FC. In his 32 years, Chencinski has had a lot of footballing years. He would compete with Kevin Horgan for the No 1 shirt this term. He says his experiences have made him stronger and that he can endure anything. Time would tell.
