European football governing body UEFA has released a statement saying that Moldova, the United States, and Romania are the chief countries where the Euro 2012 tickets have been sold in large numbers.
Moldovan football is set to receive a major boost in the form of the Euro 2012, despite the fact that the competition is not actually going to be held in Moldova.
Neighbouring countries Poland and Ukraine will be hosting the competition in the summer, but it is set to benefit Moldovan football in a significant way. One can already see the benefits of this tournament following this statement released by UEFA.
Moldovan football fans are expected to be amongst the highest travellers during this tournament, which will in turn boost the interest in the local football.
Countries like Moldova, Romania, and the United States are the countries whose teams are not taking part in the competition. Yet, there has been tremendous interest from the aforementioned regions in securing the tickets for one of the major tournaments in world football.
Whilst Spain are the current favourites of the football betting markets, they will not be the best supported, with many of the Moldovan's expected to actively cheer on their Polish counterparts.
The previous edition of the European Championship was held in Switzerland and Austria. It was a tremendous success and UEFA are hoping to repeat the same this time around as well.
Recently, the Ukrainian border agency and the Moldova border agency said that they will be relaxing the norms while the Euro 2012 takes place. This will in turn lead to better economy as a number of tourists are expected to visit Moldova during this period.
"The protocol on cooperation during the period of organization of the 2012 European football championship... will be the basis for ensuring that the simplification that was introduced as a temporary measure is considered with the aim of making it permanent if it proves its effectiveness," read a statement on the Ukrainian border agency website, translated by Betfair.
