QATAR 2022: MOLDOVA TARGET FIRST WIN

Moldova are still waiting for their first win in Group F of the UEFA qualifiers for next year's FIFA World Cup tournament in the Asian nation of Qatar. It has already been established that Moldovan football won't be represented at the tournament on Qatari soil next year. Moldova had been out of contention for a playoff spot in their group since the set of qualifiers in September were concluded.

The Moldovans are in the same group as Denmark, Scotland, Austria, Faroe Islands and Israel. Denmark have already won the group after a perfect record without conceding a single goal till date. The Danes became the third team to seal a place at Qatar 2022 with the 1-0 win at home to Austrians in their last qualifying match. Hosts Qatar and Germany were the first two teams to seal their spot at the tournament billed for the end of 2022.

Denmark handed the darkest day to Moldovan football earlier in the qualifiers after they were hit for eight. In their second qualifying match for Qatar 2022, MikkelDamsgaard and Kasper Dolberg scored a brace each as the Moldovans were beaten 8-0 at the home of Denmark in March. It was the heaviest defeat suffered by Moldovan football since they started playing on the international scene. When the two teams met again last month, the Danes ran out 4-0 winners against hosts Moldova.

Moldova have two more games in the bid to end their qualifying campaignwith at least one victory. The Moldovans will take on Scotland at theZimbru Stadium, Chisinau. The Scotland gameis the last World Cup qualifier for Moldova at home and against a Scotland team who needs a win to seal second place in Group F and a playoff spot.
