RONALDO EXTENDS HIS LEAD

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored his 28th goal in La Liga in Real Madrid’s 4-0 win over Sevilla on Sunday. The Portuguese striker scored in the 64th minute thanks to a Danilo cross.

This means that Cristiano Ronaldo has now scored six more goals than his Argentinian rival in the Spanish League.

In a game where Real Madrid had more than 25 attempts on goal, we would have expected Cristiano Ronaldo to score a few more goals. Instead, he missed a penalty in the second half by sending the ball over the bar after a foul by Jose Antonio Reyes on Luka Modric. This is the third penalty miss in the current campaign by the Portuguese player.

Ronaldo was also culprit of missing a number of chances during this game where he was denied by Sevilla’s keeper Sergio Rico in the first half.

The other goals in the game have been scored by Karim Benzema in the 6th minute, Gareth Bale in the 66th minute and Jesé in the 86th minute. The bookies such as StanJames had Real Madrid as clear favourites for the match, so it was no real surprise to see Madrid rip home so easily.

Since his arrival, Zinedine Zidane has not always been able to name a full-strength side due to suspensions and injuries. However on Sunday, he had a potent strike force consisting of Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale for the first time since January 17th. This was evident on the field where Madrid produced some exquisite offensive moves that allow them to carve open the Sevilla defence at will only to be denied by a great goalkeeping performance by Rico.

Currently, Ronaldo is top of La Liga goal scoring chart with 28 goals; Suarez is second with 26 and third Messi with 22 goals scored. With eight games left to play in the season, everything can happen, and the competition between Ronaldo and Messi should be interesting to follow.
