Sheriff add fifth Brazilian to squad

Moldovan giants FC Sheriff have added a fifth Brazilian to their squad in the shape of striker Juninho Potiguar from Icasa in Brazil.

After failing to achieve promotion to the top flight last season, Juninho was allowed to leave Icasa on a free transfer, signing a three-year contract with the European club. The forward will now be looking to help his new club achieve a tenth straight Divizia Națională title, joining compatriots Enrique Luvannor, Ricardinho, Ernandes and Jhonatan at Sheriff.

Caras Targets Euro 2016 Spot

Moldova coach, Ion Caras, has targeted a place at Euro 2016 after agreeing a two-year contract extension with the national team.

Friendlies have also been arranged for next month with Moldova scheduled to play Norway on 15th January and Poland five days later with both matches set to take place in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

Moldova met Poland in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, drawing one game and losing the other, while they have failed to win any of their four previous matches against Norway.

Moldova are also set to play a friendly against Andorra on 5th March.

Former English FA chairman David Bernstein has said that manager Roy Hodgson should not be sacked from the job if England do not manage to make it into the 2014 World Cup. The possibility of England failing to qualify for this major tournament still exists because they are only in the second place in the group.

The team will be having an important World Cup qualifying match against Moldova on September 6. It could go a long way into deciding the future of national team. There are only a handful of World Cup qualifying matches left before the tournament begins.

Brazil managed to win their group in the Confederations cup following a 4-2 win over Italy. As a result of this win, they will be facing Uruguay in the semifinals of the competition.

Even though the last few matches have been the first competitive encounters Brazil have been facing after more than two years, they have been able to grind results and reach the semifinals quite comfortably. Moldova managed to surprise everyone by managing a 1-1 draw with Poland in a World Cup qualifying match. Moldova came into the encounter as the team sitting just above the bottom of the table. They had taken four points from the six matches they have played so far.

The team has almost no hope of qualifying for the World Cup. They are playing in the group stages only for pride. They achieved it exactly following a 1-1 draw with Poland. This result has left it extremely difficult for the Polish also to think about qualifying for the World Cup.
