Alexandru Spiridon Excited about Facing Defending Champions France

Moldova begin the Euro 2020 qualification campaign with a home match against France. This is a remarkably tough encounter for the Moldovan national team as it represents a game against the defending world champions. Manager Alexandru Spiridon says that there is a great deal of excitement within the players and the staff about the prospect of facing players like Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe. Moldova’s biggest challenge will be to avoid a big defeat as one of the minnows in the group stages. The expectations from Moldova are already low as a result of being placed in a group containing the likes of France, Turkey, and Iceland.

Effectively, Moldova will be fighting to avoid the bottom of the group with the likes of Andorra. In order to try and get anything out of the match against the reigning champions, Alexandru Spiridon says that a very strong atmosphere is essential. The match, though, will probably represent the toughest game in the career of Moldova players and manager. However, opposition midfielder Paul Pogba, who is considered as one of the best in the world, claims that Moldova will be a difficult challenge since the nation – ranked 170th in the world – does not have anything to lose.Spiridon agreed with this statement but refused to add too much to such mind games.

France Ranked As Favourites to Win Group H

France are seen as a strong favourite to reach the Twenty20 after being put in a group that contains Iceland, Turkey, Moldova, Albania, and Andorra. The first set of matches will take place in March 22. The Euro 2020 is a special event with 12 different cities hosting the tournament across 12 different countries. The qualification format for the competition will be slightly different due to the UEFA Nations League. The presence of 10 groups means that the top two teams will be able to qualify for the finals. The final four spots will be provided by the play-offs, which will be contested by 16 outfits.

France and Albania find themselves in the same group as the Euro 2016. Albania, though, will find it harder to reach the finals this time around. France, as the world champions, are the favourites to win the group quite comfortably. Despite having an inexperienced squad at the World Cup in Russia, France were able to come away with the first World Cup title since 1998. Manager Didier Deschamps showed a lot of tactical skills to get the best out of the team. Now, the team will be more mature with the likes of Kylian Mbappe gaining more experience by the time the qualification campaign gets into the business end.

Alexandru Spiridon Happy with Draw and Clean Sheet against Belarus

Moldova national team manager Alexandru Spiridon claims that Belarus may not be entirely happy with his team’s tactics in the recent match between the two nations. Belarus coach Igor Kriushenko was critical of the defensive tactics put forward by Moldova in the recent UEFA Nations League meeting between the two nations. After losing 4-0 against Luxembourg in the first Nations League game, Moldova were in serious need of an improvement at the back. It has come in the form of a defensive tactic that has led to three consecutive clean sheets – including two against Belarus.

As a result, Moldova are in a comfortable position with regard to aiming for promotion into the next round. They trail Luxembourg by four points but it is quite possible that the results could change quite dramatically considering that Moldova have already picked up five points from the group’s four games.Spiridon says that he had little option but to go with the defensive tactic considering the quality of the opposition. Since Belarus have a lot of great players, they would have been able to open up Moldova with greater precision if the opponent had also been quite open at the back. The next match for Moldova will be against San Marino in November. This game provides Moldova with a great hope of catching Luxembourg.

Republic of Ireland Earn Criticism Due to Moldova’s Strong Play

Eamon Dunphy being the latest to criticise the manager. The former Aston Villa boss took over as the national team manager a couple of years ago and he installed Roy Keane as his assistant. However, Ireland were unable to make much of an impact in the World Cup qualification group and ended up failing to reach the finals in Russia. Ireland were knocked out by Denmark in a 5-1 aggregate score in the World Cup qualification play-offs, as the team could only finish second in a group that contain the Serbia, veils, Austria, Georgia, and Moldova.

The victory over Moldova was one of the five victories achieved by Ireland in the 10 World Cup games. Even then, Moldova put up a strong fight and were able to lose only 2-0, which is a commendable result for the team that ended up conceding 23 goals in the 10 World Cup qualification matches. Moldova are still considered as one of the minnows in European football but they can take a lot of heart from the recent performance against teams like Ireland. In the last four matches across all competitions, Moldova have lost only twice.
