Moldova are one of the least ranked football nations on the European continent and it's not surprising that they were in the sixth and last pot ahead of the draw for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the UEFA section.

Moldovian football suffered its darkest day on March 28, 2021 during the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier with Denmark in the European section. Moldova were hit for eight by their hosts in Group F of the European qualifiers. It was the second game of the group for the two teams.

Moldovan football has not enjoyed a lift off as far as qualification for the European Championships is concerned despite the increase in the number of participating teams from 16 to 24 ahead of the last edition in France. The 2016 edition of the European Championships was won by Portugal at the expense of hosts France in the final. Ex-Swansea City striker Eder scored the only goal of that final in extra time to hand Portugal their first major tournament via a 1-0 win over the French Les Blues.

Lowly Benevento continue to punch above their weight in the Italian Serie A this season and that's mainly thanks to manager FilipoInzaghi. Benevento showed why they won't be going back to the second tier of Italian football, Serie B, at the end of this season after the goalless draw with AS Roma at the weekend. PETER BANDA BEGINS TRIALS AT FC SHERIFF

Peter Banda, a midfielder of Nyasa Big Bullets has commenced his trials at Moldovan top club in the Moldovan top tier division FC Sheriff Tiraspol, it has been confirmed. The midfield sensation who was the winner of the TNM Super League Player of The Year gong in 2019 departed the country in January (last month) after his initial contract had expired with his former club.


He has now been invited by the Moldovan team to come and have trials with them and will commenced immediately till on the 15th of this month. He was first contacted to come and start the trials last month but due to some paperwork issues, he was unable to make the trip and was eventually left stranded. However, with all the stumbling blocks now removed, he has now been given the green light and passed fit to join up with the team.
He has now started trials at the club and the move has seen him reunite with the club's right back Charles Petro, who is a former teammate of Banda. C

Moldovan football will definitely get a facelift if the country can qualify for the upcoming FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar next year. The World Cup tournament in Qatar starts on November 21 and will run through to December 18. Moldova face a big hurdle toqualify for the World Cup tournament in Qatar as one of the least ranked teams in the European section.Ahead of the draw for the UEFA section, Moldova were in Pot 6 as one of the bottom five teams according to the FIFA Rankings for last year November.


Moldova were in the last pot (pot 6) alongside other countries like San Marino, Liechtenstein,Malta and Gibraltar. Moldova were the least ranked team in their group at the end of the draw. Moldovan football fans would be hoping that their teamcan stun the other countries in the group to secure a place in Qatar and give Moldovan football the much needed shot in the arm.

MALAWI MIDFIELDER SET FOR MOLDOVAN TRIALS

Malawi wonder boy Peter Banda has been turning heads in his country with his impressive performances for his club and he's set to storm Moldovan football for trials. Peter Banda plays his club football for Malawi top division outfit Nyasa Big Bullets. The scheduled visit to Moldovan football for Peter Banda for trials was confirmed by Nyasa Big Bullets earlier this month.


If his trials proved to be successful, Peter Banda will join former teammate Charles Petro in Moldovan football. Peter Banda and Charles Petro were teammates at Nyasa Big Bullets before the latter left Malawi for Moldovan football giants FC Sheriff Tiraspol. FC Sheriff Tiraspol are the biggest club in Moldovan football and they are the reigning champions in the top flight. FC Sheriff Tiraspol won the last edition of the league in 2019 to make it league title no. 18 ahead of Zimbru Chisinau. Zimbru Chisinau have won the league title eight times and they are the second most successful club in the history of Moldovan football behind FC Sheriff. Dacia Chisinau, FC Tiraspol and MilsamiOrhei are the other teams to win the league title in the top division of Moldovan football.

SHERIFF ON COURSE FOR ANOTHER TITLE

Sheriff Tiraspol has dominated Moldovan foootball for a long time and their hold on club football is set to continue as they are the pacesetters in the current league season. Sheriff Tiraspol are the kings of Moldovanfootball after winning 18 league titles from the 29 league titles on offer ahead of the next best team, Zimbru Chisinau.


Zimbru Chisinau have won eight league titles in their history. Apart from Sheriff Tiraspol and Zimbru Chisinau, only three other clubs have tasted the title in the top flight of Moldovan football. The other teams to win the league title in the Moldovan National League also known as Divizan Nationala are FC Tiraspol, Dacia Chisinau and Milsami Orhei. Sheriff Tiraspol have ruled Moldovan football for the last five seasons dating back to the 2014/15 season when Milsami Orhei won their first and only league title. Since then, Sheriff Tiraspol have won all the league titles on offer and they are set to add another league title to their trophy cabinet at the end of the current season with the club setting the pace as far as the 2020/21 Moldovan National Division is concerned.
